What Are You Going to Need?
Before you can start making your yogurt, there are inevitably going to be a few things that you need to get yourself started. Below is a list of the ingredients that you will need to make your own delicious and creamy yogurt:
- Organic Milk
- Yogurt Starter
Once you have these two ingredients, you can start making your yogurt, and it is so much easier than you think.
Step-By-Step Instructions on How to Make Yogurt
But, you can’t just slap these two ingredients together and expect yogurt to burst into existence. No. You are going to need a set of easy to follow instructions…just like what we have down below.
Step 1 – Pour Milk in a Microwave-Safe Bowl
To get yourself started, you need to pour your milk into a big glass bowl which can be microwaved.
Step 2 – Heat Up Your Milk
With your milk in a nice glass bowl, you must now heat up the milk. You can do this by putting it in the microwave for about ten minutes. Once that time has elapsed, grab an instant read thermometer and read the temperature to make sure that it is eighty-two degrees Celsius. If it has not reached this temperature after ten minutes in the microwave, put the bowl of milk in the microwave for one to two minute increments until it is the right temperature.
Step 3 – Cool the Warm Milk
Take the milk out of the microwave and allow it to cool down to between forty-four and forty-six degrees Celsius. To speed this process up you can put the bowl in an ice water bath. Just take care not to let water get in the milk.
Step 4 – Mix in the Yogurt Starter
Pour at least one cup of the milk into a small glass and sprinkle in your packet of yogurt starter. Mix it into the cup of milk thoroughly.
Step 5 – Pour the Cup of Milk and Starter Back into the Bowl
Your yogurt starter and small cup of milk must now be added back into the bowl of milk. Stir thoroughly until it is combined.
Step 6 – Fill the Glass Jars of the Yogurt Maker
At this point you can start filling the jars of the yogurt maker. Set the timer on the machine for between seven and nine hours. It will be better to leave the yogurt for longer as this will make your yogurt nice and firm. Additionally, there will be more beneficial bacteria in the yogurt if it incubates for longer.
Step 7 – Refrigerate Your Yogurt
At this point your yogurt should be done. Place the glass jars in the refrigerator so that they can stay cool and fresh.
Step 8 – Add Toppings and Serve
Add any fruit and toppings to your yogurt and enjoy the fruits of your labour.
