But there are other foods you can make using this kind of flour such as some varieties of pancakes, appams and more. But you can also use it as a thickener for soups or stews as well.

Making Rice Flour Step-by-Step

In this section, I am going to go over all the steps you will need to follow in order to make this easy flour at home. This process takes just over two hours, but if you are willing to put the time in, you will have opened up a whole new world for yourself.

All you need to get started is 285 grams of rice and water. Now, let’s jump into the step-by-step process you need to follow to make your own rice flour!

Step 1 – Soak the Rice

Weigh out your rice and rinse it under cool water for a couple of minutes. Then pour your rice into a bowl and cover it with water so that it can soak for between two and three hours.

Once this time has elapsed, drain the water and place the rice on a big kitchen towel on the counter.

Step 2 – Dry the Rice

Now you begin the process of drying the rice. Spread it out on the kitchen towel and let the rice dry for about forty-five minutes in a shaded spot. It is very important you do not allow the rice to dry out in the sun.

Step 3 – Blend the Rice

Toss your dried rice into your blender and blitz the rice until it is the right texture. The texture depends on what you need. Your main options are fine, semi-fine, or course. When you choose is dependent on what you need the flour for.

Step 4 – Sieve the Blended Rice

Once your rice has been blended, I recommend passing it through a sieve so that you can sift out any larger grains. You can either add the large grains back into the blender, or you can toss them. But by doing this you are sure to get nice smooth flour without any clumps.

Step 5 – Allow the Rice Flour to Dry Further

You are almost done! Spread out the flour on a plate and let it dry for a while longer. After it has 100% dried, you can pour it into an airtight container and keep it in the freezer or refrigerator to keep for longer.
