Homemade Pizza Recipe

If you are anything like I am, Pizza is one of your all-time favourite foods. Pizza also happens to be kinda pricey, especially a wonderfully fresh, meaty, greasy one from your favourite takeaway! But what if you could have all the joy of your favourite Pizza Toppings, fresh, and CHEAP?!

Well you can! Let’s get stuck in with what you will need to get, and what you will need to do, for your first homemade Pizza!

What Are You Going to Need?

As usual, there are a few things you are going to need to make this happen. Thankfully, we did the groundwork already!

Equipment;

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Tray
  • Oven
  • Rolling Pin

Ingredients;

  • Flour (3 ½ cup)
  • Yeast (2 ¼ tsp)
  • Sugar (1 tbsp)
  • Salt (1 tsp)
  • Warm Water (1 ½ cups)
  • Olive Oil (2 tbsp)
  • Toppings of your choice!

That’s the lot! Once you have it gathered, move on to the Step-By-Step, you will be surprised at how easy this comes together.

Step-By-Step Instructions on How to Make Homemade Pizza

Step 1 – Prepare the Yeast

First thing first, you need to activate the Yeast. To do this, put the Warm Water in the mixing bowl, add your Yeast, and add your Sugar. Feel free to give this a little mix together, then cover for 5-10 minutes with a cloth. You will know it is ready when it has frothed up along the surface.

Step 2 – Mix the Ingredients

Next, take all the other ingredients (other than your toppings!) and add them to the mixing bowl. You need to mix these all together – whatever way is best for you, you can use a whisk if you like, or a machine, but your hands are just as good if you don’t mind getting your hands dirty! Keep going until the mixture has become all one consistency, not too wet, not too sticky.

Step 3 – Knead the Pizza Dough

When you have the mixture as above, you need to remove it from the bowl, and begin kneading. You may find it helpful to sprinkle some flour on your work surface, and also clean your hands from any sticky residue you may have left. Knead by pressing down on the mixture with the heel of your palm, folding over the mixture over the indent you created, then pressing down again. Repeat this process for the next 10-15 minutes, approximately, or until smooth, pliable, malleable.

Step 4 – Leave the Pizza Dough to Rise

Once you have kneaded your mixture into Dough, return it to the bowl, and cover the bowl with a cloth. Place the bowl in a warm, dry place in your home, like an airing or boiler cupboard. Leave it here for at least 1.5 to 2 hours to rise.

Step 5 – Separate and Roll Out the Pizza Dough

After enough time has passed, you can take the bowl back out, remove the risen dough, and measure out your even splits for however many servings you need. In our experience, this amount covers 3 fairly large pizza bases, or 4 medium large pizza bases. Use your rolling pin to create your shape, you can even do this part on your baking tray!

Step 6 – Add Your Toppings

This is the stage you get full creative licence – add your base sauce, cheeses, flavoursome extras to your leisure! Whatever it is that makes this Pizza truly magnificent for you – get it on there! If you like, you can pre-bake the base of the Pizza first for 2-5 minutes just to crisp it up slightly – for those of you that prefer a firmer base, as opposed to the softer, spongier base.

Step 7 – Bake Your Pizza

Finally, the time has come – put your Pizza(s) in the oven. Heat the oven to around 200 degrees Celsius on a fan assisted oven, then bake your Pizza(s) for 15-20 minutes until the cheese has lightly browned, the crust has crisped, and you are happy with the result!

Step 8 – Slice, Serve, Salivate

That’s it! The time has come to slice the Pizza and serve it up! Get comfy, stick on your favourite Film/Show, and enjoy with your finest Non-Descript, Unbranded Beverage.
