  • Dates
  • Figs
  • Watermelons
  • Pomegranates
  • Olives
  • Mangoes

Bear in mind that there are a lot of other fruit plants you could try out and be successful within hot climates. These are just a few fruit plants I have found to be the most successful.

So, without further ado, let’s dive right in and get started!

Which Fruit Grows Best in a Hot and Dry Climate?

In this section, I have listed 0000 fruit plants that are sure to thrive in hot and dry climates. There are many more fruits which I have not listed here, but these are sure to be your best options.

1. Dates

There are more than 1500 known varieties of date palms. So you will have to pick an option that is readily available where you live. But these plants are known to be very drought-resistant and thrive in hot climates, which is why they are at the top of my list.

2. Figs

These fruits are super healthy for you and include many healthy minerals and vitamins that your body needs. They also happen to prefer hot climates. Make sure to plant your fig tree in a place where they can get at least six hours of sun per day.

On top of that, make sure to keep the needs of your variety of figs in mind, as there will be different soil and space requirements depending on what kind of fig tree you get.

3. Watermelons

Watermelons are a summer favourite. Sweet, crunchy, juicy and refreshing, there is no better snack when the sun is blazing down on you. These plants also love hot weather and will thrive in temperatures between 18–25 degrees Celsius.

But watermelons can be finicky and thus need a lot of specific care to bear fruit. So make sure to do your research before you take on these delicious summer fruits.

4. Pomegranate

These plants prefer warm and sunny spots, despite loving the heat you should ensure that pomegranate plants are grown in free-draining, moisture, retentive soil. I recommend a deep loamy soul for these plants, but you can grow them in sandy or clay soils just as well. Regardless of what soul you go for, these plants will thrive in hot and sunny climates.

5. Olives

Olive trees are incredibly tough plants, they love full sun and prefer well-draining soil. These plants are originally Mediterranean plants and as such they enjoy hot and dry climates as that is what they are used to. As such, I recommend choosing a sunny yet sheltered spot for your olive tree if you want the best results.

6. Prickly Pears

These fruit grow on cacti, which are plants that typically enjoy hot and arid climates. If you want to grow some prickly pears yourself, you should pick a spot that gets four to six hours of sun per day. If your winters are cold you should ensure that your prickly pears are properly taken care of as they do not like the cold.

7. Mangoes

These plants prefer warm environments that reach temperatures above 21 degrees Celsius. On top of that, mango trees also need at least eight hours of sun per day in order to produce flowers and fruit. So make sure to pick your spot carefully if you want to get delicious, juicy and succulent mango fruit out of your plant.

FAQ

In this section, I am going to answer some of your most frequently asked questions regarding fruit plants that grow in hot and arid climates.

What is the Easiest Fruit to Grow in the Desert?

While there are a few fruits that will grow in the desert, I would say that figs are one of the easiest as they prefer semidesert climates and thus will not struggle to grow in the arid heat of a desert.

What are the Most Drought Tolerant Fruits?

If you know that you are going to struggle with water where you live, then you will likely want to grow fruit trees that are fairly drought-resistant. I recommend almonds, figs, and olives as these plants are known for being the most drought-resistant. There are some others that will suit places prone to droughts like apples, cherries, apricots, pearls and plums.

Which Fruits Produce the Quickest?

If you want a quick crop, I recommend growing blackberries, raspberries or strawberries. These three berries usually produce fruit quickly. Bear in mind that they may not love hot climates, but with proper care, you should get some fruit out of them.

Which Berries Are the Most Heat Tolerant?

There are two berries that I know of which are very heat tolerant. Bababerry and Oregon 1030 are both known for being heat-tolerant berries. But not many people have heard of either of them.

Can Blackberries Grow in Hot Climates?

This plant is not suited to hot and dry weather. In fact, the best time to plant blackberries is during the winter, but if you live in the right places you should be able to buy blackberry plants all year round.
